September 22nd Meetup: Group Shoot at Washington Park Arboretum

Hi Mamas! We are going to squeeze in one last group shoot this month before the darkness pushes our meetups indoors!

September is the perfect time to start thinking about those fall family photos that you’ll use for your holiday cards & gifts. We will meet at the Graham Visitors Center and do a fun group walk around the arboretum. We’ll show and shoot as the light allows at some great locations within the Arboretum in particular, but also will give you compositional and planning and posing tips that you can use anywhere! Bring your camera, and if you have a kid that likes to walk (and likes being photographed!), bring him/her too! We love when all our Mamas can practice with a couple of models!
When: Monday, September 22nd 6:30-8pm
Where: Meet at Graham Visitors Center, we’ll walk together from there
Bring:  Your SLR (and maybe a kid!)
This is a free meet up, so it’s a perfect chance to bring your Mama friends! Hope you can join the fun!

July Events: Introduction to Digital Photography Workshop & Urban Walk Meetup!

Hi Mamas,

Make sure to join us for our Mamas With Cameras events in July! Summer is a great time to play with your camera and capture those timeless joys of summer!

Did you buy a digital SLR camera but have no idea how to use it outside of the automatic setting? Does the idea of reading an instruction manual make you nauseous? Are you interested in taking amazing pictures of your kids, but feel a bit intimidated by technology?

In a few short hours, we’ll ground you in the basic definitions and controls on your digital SLR camera so that your photos of your child’s big milestones can be as beautiful and moving as the moments themselves. Register here!

Monday, July 28th 6:30-8:30pm: July Meetup- Urban Photo Walk

Meet at 6:30pm in front of Cupcake Royale in Ballard (a bit earlier if you need to “carbo-load”! :-).) This is a hands-on meet up so bring your SLR and let’s get walking! We’ll explore downtown Ballard and play with light, composition and finding cool urban backgrounds.

Hope to see you this month!

Exhibit is UP!

Last night at 11pm, five hours after we kicked off the work party at Studio R, we stood back and took a look at the exhibit that our community of mamas has created. All I can say is: it absolutely took my breath away. To see all the images of our children beaming off of the walls, and to feel the love that’s pouring out of each and every image, is something very powerful. A BIG BIG thank you to our very dedicated set up crew: Sara, Wenmei, Cecilia, Nicki, & Stephanie!! They did not quit until we had it all figured out (and there was a surprising amount to figure out). I think that all you mamas will be blown away on Friday when you walk in!!

The word is out about our event, we are in Red Tricycle and on the home page of Seattle’s Child, and I am posting to the mom’s lists today!

If you are new to the blog and are in the Seattle Area, we are thrilled to invite you to our very first exhibit: “Through the Eyes of a Mother,” a photography show that celebrates the enduring love of mothers. It is this Friday, May 7th at Studio R in Fremont (315 N 36th St, Second floor). Stop in anytime from 6-9pm and check out our photo display. Our exhibit is part of the the Fremont First Friday Art Walk, and it’s the perfect way to kick off Mother’s Day weekend! If you’re a mama with a digital SLR, we hope you’ll be inspired to pick up your camera and join us for our next group meeting at Studio R on Monday May 17th!

Can’t wait to see you all on Friday!
